A Rare and Beautiful Barbola Lamp Base (hw587)
This is an extremely rare and most beautiful, Barbola decorated lamp base. It dates to the 1940s and is a heavy plaster base which is painted a sublimely pretty shade of eau de nil. It is a classic urn shape with a decorative edged base and top. The floral Barbola decoration has been applied to the front of the lamp base and painted in delightful colours. The bottom of the lamp has its original felt base.
The lamp base measures approximately 15" high to the top of the bulb fixing. It is in lovely condition having crackling to the painted finish and some minor wear to the painted finish. The Barbola work appears completely intact with the usual minor cracking which denotes its age. The lamp is currently wired with its original flex and bakelite bulb fixing and switch - this will require replacement with modern day parts to comply with current safety standards. (The shade is not included.)
