Beautiful 1930s Delphinium Fabric (tx471)
This is two separate panels of a stunning and extremely rare form of vintage fabric - highly prized and extremely sought after! It dates to the 1930s and is a cotton fabric with perhaps the most breathtaking design of long stemmed delphiniums in shades of blue with a depth and beauty which really do take one's breath away. The fabric is a closely woven cotton and the design appears on both sides, seemingly as strong whichever way it is viewed. The gentle, painterly colours are divine and the purple daisies and large foliage add much to the design. The soft stone-coloured background is the perfect foil for the many shades of blue, with darker areas showing a clever pattern of shadows cast by the tall blooms.
Delphiniums are a firm favourite in the cottage garden and were a popular choice of decoration during the 1930s. This exceptional fabric captures the richness of the blue flowers and the grace of this willowy plant in a style that echoes this long-ago decade.
There are two panels of fabric. Each panel is made from two long lengths of fabric and has a central, vertical join and measures approximately 60" (153cm) wide by 90" (229cm) long. There is a hemmed channel both top and bottom. The condition is superb, perhaps some subtle fading in places and a small wear hole in each panel but hidden within the glorious pattern.
