Very Rare Barbola Boudoir Firescreen (hw602)
This is such a pretty and extremely rare firescreen! It dates to the 1930s and is exquisite in so many ways. This was made for a boudoir fireplace and is dainty, beautiful and practical. It is made from wood and has two sturdy feet in a typical deco style. The front of the firescreen has a decorative Barbola plaque which is beautifully crafted and painted in supremely pretty colours. The work has even been signed by the artist: M Boyd. The main panel has been cleverly handpainted to represent a pale and buttery maple-type wood and this is the perfect backdrop for the Barbola work. It is edged with a rounded trim finished in a pale neutral colour. A superb and rare item indeed!
The firescreen measures approximately 21.5" high by 14.5" wide. It bears age-related marks and wear etc., with some crackling to the paint but is nice and sturdy. There is a very slight twist to the main panel and the reverse shows a small area of paint loss and small holes where the Barbola plaque is fixed to the panel.
A truly lovely vintage firescreen which is a one-off and unique piece; a rare and beautiful item to grace your vintage home.
