Beautiful French Rosy Handstitched Quilt (astb211)
What a beauty this is! This French quilt is a very rare example. It is made from a superbly pretty cotton fabric which is smothered in exquisite roses and foliage. The background is a wonderfully shade of Tarragon - a soft yellow green with a delicate gold undertone. The reverse is a fantastic yellow-gold coloured satin and it is here that the amazing handstitched patterns can be seen in detail. The edges and corners of the quilt are finished with a yellow-gold braid. It is heavily wadded, mostly likely with a wool material. This is indeed a real beauty and would grace a double or kingsize bed.
The quilt measures approximately 94" by 87" and can be used either way round. The condition is excellent. On the reverse there are some very light marks, a tiny nick in the fabric and a couple of teeny darns - all of which is hardly noticeable. There's a small water mark near one corner and some minor darkening at the very edges. The quilt appears to have had little use and is unfaded.
