Framed Romantic Petit Point Panels (1) (pg277)
A really beautiful piece of extremely fine, vintage petit point which has been framed in more recent years. It would appear by the shape, that this was the front of an evening bag, and may have been stored for many years before someone re-discovered it to set it into a frame some 25 or so years ago. The scene is a romantic toile with ladies and gents; the lady is playing the mandolin whilst a gentleman sits beside her. In the background, a lady and gentleman walk arm in arm as she wafts herself gently with her fan. The idyllic scene is surrounded by a border of delightful flowers, including roses and tulips.
The frame measures approximately 34cm by 30cm. The swept gold frame is wooden and there is a deep cream-coloured card mount with a gold inline. The reverse of the picture bears a small stamp with the framer's details. It is in excellent condition; the frame has really very minor markings and the mount is clean. The petit point work is exquisite and clean. There appears to be some wavyness to the piece of embroidery but this could be restretched and reframed if you wish - it is more noticeable close to.
