Magnificent 1940s French Floral Quilt (astb326)

This is a truly stunning quilt. It dates to the 1940s and is French in origin. The soft cotton covering and zigzag stitching is similar to the British Comfy quilts of the same era so it will blend perfectly with vintage English interiors. The soft cotton cretonne (a textured cotton similar to barkcloth) is a striking black with the most beautiful floral decoration in the prettiest colours. You will adore the flowers, which include: dahlias, dianthus, dicentra, pansies, roses, phlox, aquilega and campanula; all delightfully depicted in the most appealing style. The reverse is a plain ecru coloured cotton and the closely stitched zigzagging stands out nicely against this background.

The ultimate quilt for lovers of flowers and vintage textiles, your bed will look as pretty as an English cottage garden!

The quilt is approximately 76" by 88". Condition is very good with no fading. The black background is not as contrasting as seen in the photos; the soft texture of the fabric affords it a gentler tone. Some markings to the plain side and one small hole on the edge of the plain side. Top and bottom edges of patterned side have some wear - this is not too noticeable, and there are a couple of small areas of wear in the middle towards edge - minor and hardly noticeable. The quilt has two vertical joins and an inset at each corner.
