The Most Beautiful French Roses Quilt (astb246)
This is an absolutely beautiful French quilt. It dates to the 1940s and is handstitched with two striking fabrics on either side. The decorative side of the quilt is covered with an exceedingly pretty cotton fabric decorated with pink and red roses with trailing thorny stems against a cream coloured background. The reverse of the quilt is a rich raspberry coloured cotton. The quilt has a deep valance along one edge, shown in the photos at the bottom of the bed. The quilt is handstitched in a pattern of a triple channelled border and zigzags across the main part of the body.
The quilt measures approximately 79" wide by 74" long excluding the valance - this adds a further 13" to the length - although the quilt could be used any way round. The colours are bright and unfaded. There are some minor marks here and there and a little darkening at part of the edges - but these do not detract in any way and are not all that noticeable. There are some small holes in the cotton fabric along parts of the edges - again, these do not detract and are generally lost in the pattern. The plain side has some small holes in the cotton and a darn in one place. It may be that the quilt had a trim or similar attached to it at one time which has left the holes. The quilt has a nice thick filling, most probably a wool or cotton batting.!
An absolutely stunning French quilt which will provide beauty to your bedroom and ensure a cosy night's sleep.
