Utterly Fantastic Fifties Floral Bedspread (astb187)
If I had to sum up why I love vintage florals, I think I would say nothing, and simply point you in the direction of this darling! This is a superb and beautiful 1950s floral cotton quilted bedspread in MINT condition. This spectacular floral extravaganza was expertly made in the 1950s and then put away carefully; never used and never exposed to daylight. As a result, you could be excused for thinking it had been made only yesterday, its condition is beyond belief. It has a crispness and strength of colour which has remained with it all these years it has been stored away.
The cotton fabric is a really divine shade of pink with masses of garden flowers in all their glory. I have spotted roses, poppies, peonies and aquilega, all in beautifully rich and mouthwatering shades. The body of the bedspread has been quilted in a zig-zag stitch, and has a padded underside. The deep and generous valance is present on three sides, having a split either side at the end, so that it will fit a bed such as the Victorian one shown in the photos. A sweet and delicate frill borders the body of the bedspread and towards the top of the bedspread, there is an extra insert on both sides, which ensures the bedspread accommodates the pillows.
The bedspread measures approximately wide 55" across the main body. It is 79" long excluding the valance. The valance is 21" deep. This bedspread will fit a standard 4'6" bed as shown in the photos. The condition is truly amazing - perfect! There is a small card label which has been stitched to the underside - this bears some pencil markings and '1953' which we believe to be the date it was made.
If you want your vintage boudoir to be 'dressed to impress' then this beauty will definitely fit the bill!
